How to subscribe now to the world's leading sailing magazine
Il Giornale della Vela or GdV (so affectionately called by its readers) has been informing Italians for over thirty years about boat trials, market trends, accessories, holidays and places to visit, boat shows and events, regattas and sporting events. The website and its social channels are among the most popular in Italy for the “sea”, “sailing” and “boating” tags and have more than 1,000,000 visitors a year.
Over the last 5 years, it has also invented and implemented sailing related events in Italy, such as the TAG Heuer VELAFestival, the VELA CUP and lastly the MilanoYachtingWeek, which, by necessity, has changed from physical to digital. During its activities, the editorial staff of the GdV had the opportunity to follow the evolution of our country’s customs and development through pleasure boating, interviewing the major captains of the industry, being present at the most exclusive events and places and at all the great stages that have distinguished our history over almost half a century.
Il Giornale della Vela was born in 1975 from an idea of Mario Oriani, namely to create the first newspaper for sailing and boating enthusiasts in Italy. Over the years it has established itself as the leading monthly in the sector and has broadened its horizons in events and related services.
Some figures for the magazine: in 2019 Il Giornale della Vela reached an average circulation of 22,000* copies per issue (newsstand 12,500 copies + 2,500 downloads from tablets + 7,000 paper and tablet/smartphone subscribers). The average number of readers is estimated at 130,000 per issue. These numbers make GDV more and more a reference point for all sailing and sea lovers, but not only: today it is the most widespread magazine not only for sailing but for the whole boating industry in Italy.
The average circulation of the paper edition is 30,000* copies. Il Giornale della Vela is available in Apple and Android digital formats. In 2019 the apps of the GDV (magazine+digital library) were downloaded 60,000* times and viewed 310,000 times, with a clear increase in the last year. Digital subscriptions have doubled since 2015 (only if the Apple platform is taken into account) with an average annual subscription growth of 30%. The Giornale della Vela app was chosen by Apple for the TV commercial for the launch of the iPad3 in Italy. It currently has three separate newsstands:
– Il Giornale della Vela: monthly edition
– Books and Manuals: all books, manuals and guides of Panama Editore for a total of 35 publications
– Mediterranean Guides: 37 Mediterranean guides for boat cruises and inland visits.
