The alternative to teak and synthetic with high-tech cork
Alternatives to teak: the coating Marinecork
Until a few years ago, on board boats, the only alternative to natural teak were synthetics, which did not take long to present their limitations and defects that condition the choice of whether or not to install it. To solve the problem, the market proposes alternative solutions and different materials. Among these stands out Marinecork, which is not made of plastic materials but of natural wood, cork, worked ad hoc to allow its installation on board. Available in two thicknesses, 6 and 8 mm, the product is 100% eco-compatible, pleasant to the touch, heat-insulating, stain-resistant and non-slip.
It is available in the form of slats and panels, the latter can be made to measure with a simple do-it-yourself cutter. Alternatively, it is possible to send the templates of your own surface to request the made-to-measure template.
The panels, available in different sizes, are processed with numerical control machines and then filled with polyurethane rubber to allow customization with logos, writings or drawings.
It is installed by simply gluing the coating on a rigid support with the same materials used to apply the teak, allowing a stable adhesion without risk of cracks or contraindications, if well done, thanks to the flexibility of the material.
PRODUCT QUALITY AND ADDED VALUES
Resistance: resists without damage to compression and accidental falls of instruments thanks to its elasticity.
Temperature: it is amazing as a thermal insulator. Although it is wood, the temperature remains stable even under the sun, pleasantly warm on contact with the foot. Particularly recommended for deckhouse coverings.
Adherence: on the surface the porosity of the cork gives excellent adherence. No grip problems in the dry, especially in the wet: a crucial point for safety on board, even for children.
Anti-stain: thanks to the hygroscopic properties, any stains from food substances can be removed simply with water. Any oily substances can be removed with a simple degreaser and rubbing. The layers underneath are identical to the surface, so that in case of acidic stains when sanding you will find a qualitatively identical product.
Aesthetics: the natural porosity and granularity of the cork is not evident after processing. Classic wood colour, it does not fade except for the very long period of time to highlight the naturalness of the product, which, like any wood, defends itself from the sun’s rays by lightening.
Lightness: extreme! It is the lightest coating (2.7 kg/sqm) ideal for not weighing boats down.
Sound absorbing: intrinsic property of cork, which allows you to dampen the noise of engines and enjoy a more relaxed life on board.- Multimedia
