The association that helps you behave at sea in "eco" mode
The “No Plastic” contest
For the past two years, every summer, Medplastic has organised the “No Plastic by Navico” contest in which it invites all sailors to become “plastic hunters” with their boats, encouraging them to document the collection with selfie, videos and photos. The three most active hunters are then rewarded. In 2019 alone, 2,000 hunters were involved who collected 3,500 kilos of plastic.
The “Ecosailor Manifesto”
That the sea is in danger is nothing new. Medplastic has created an Ecosailor Manifesto with one objective: to respect and enforce the sea. The Manifesto was born talking to “ecosailors” (such as Matteo Miceli) and experts and is a list of good habits and behaviours on the boat to sail at zero impact and take care of your sea. Make this Manifesto your own, download it, share it, the Mediterranean needs you.
Last but not least, Medplastic took care of the census of Italian ports and then asked them if they respect simple, but effective, eco-compatible behaviour. You can find the list of eco-ports, constantly updated, HERE (italian)
What are the parameters to be respected to become an eco-port?
1 – Presence in the Marina/Port of recycling banks for the disposal of special waste (Batteries, expired paint milk…)
2 – Presence in the Marina/Port of a system for the extraction of black water and bilge water (i.e. water that has oily residues and therefore needs to be filtered or stored in bins that are withdrawn periodically)
3 – Presence in the Marina/Port of devices for the automatic collection of plastic or periodic organisation of manual cleaning actions
4 – Presence or absence of an awareness-raising programme at the secretariat or at the berths (plastic collection kits or brochures on recycling, sewage and plastic damage to be delivered to boats in transit)
5 – Presence or absence of the “Bandiera Blu” flag for more than a year (the flag is given but must be maintained over time)
