Garmin Marine has designed connection diagrams depending on the type of vessel and use to make it easy for the owner or shipyard to choose the most suitable instrumentation. Today we look at the wiring diagrams of a 16-meter sailboat in two versions: short cruise or ocean boat.


Garmin Marine – 53-foot ocean-going sailboat

On a 53-foot ocean-going sailboat , about 16 meters, here is what is the ideal instrumentation that should not be missing on board. This configuration is designed for boats capable of taking on long voyages such as ocean crossings. The boat is equipped with a double wheelhouse.

Navigation

  • ECU 12 (Electronic Control Unit) is connected with Reactor 40 autopilot and GRF 10, angle sensor. The GRF 10 arm is connected with the boat’s rudder and transmits information about the rudder position.
  • GWind wind station connected with the GND 10, the black box that enables seamless integration between Nexus instruments and sensors and Garmin products, including the gWind, gWind Wireless and gWind Regatta transducers. Its plug-and-play installation, with USB connectivity, eliminates the need for system setup and configuration.
  • Three GNX120 Screens on which to display data such as speed, angle, apparent wind, and more from the wind station and the DST 810 pass-through transducer that also provides data on depth (up to 100 meters) and temperature to the NMEA 2000 network. It is also capable of detecting data on the boat’s attitude.
  • The command center is are two 12-inch GPSMAP 1222 Chartplotters, each with its own GHC 20 control unit. This new touchscreen chartplotter features an anti-glare screen and is always easy to read thanks to the large, bright 12″ display. From echosounder images to maps, through user data, radar images, recordings from cameras, and images from the innovative Panoptix, everything will be just a click away. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity allows interfacing with multiple systems including onboard autopilot, digital switching, VHF, AIS and many more.
  • The Reactor Autopilot Remote Control is a durable, waterproof remote control that allows you to control the autopilot from the palm of your hand. This remote control is used to maintain or correct your course by simply pointing it in the direction you want to go. The bright anti-glare display and ergonomic design allow for maximum convenience and control.

Security

  • The AIS 800 is a transceiver that allows us to have a better understanding of what is around us when we sail. With this tool you can display on your chartplotter the Class B/SO Automatic Identification System (AIS) data of surrounding vessels with all identifying information and position, course and speed data as well as send your own. It goes without saying that in terms of security, such a tool is crucial. In this configuration it is with an external antenna connector (AIS 800 also includes a built-in GPS).
  • A VHF 315i with a modular system designed for vessels where it is possible (and sometimes necessary) to have a station with multiple communication stations or on vessels where there is no space to install a traditional VHF in the console. This system is connected to the GA 38 antenna, as well as theActive Speaker and two GHS 11i units (one for each of the two wheelhouses), a compact and rugged handset that is completely waterproof.

Optional

  • The GMR 18 Radome antenna that can detect what is near the boat or at long distances. In all weather conditions it enables extremely sharp image definition up to 36 nautical miles.
  • A third 12-inch Garmin GPSMAP 1222 multifunctional
  • The Panoptix PS51 TH FrontVü front sight sounder because of its small size is suitable for all types of sailboats. It provides a frontal reading of 8/10 times the depth under the vessel, up to a maximum guideline range of 100 meters. The built-in AHRS sensor allows compensation for the motion of the vessel, ensuring a stable image and providing a sharp and accurate visual result.
