EXTERNAL DETAILS

Contemporary design

The Hallberg-Rassy 340 has a vertical bow in step with current design trends, a long waterline, and a beautiful marine keel with a rounded submerged hull. The boat has an elegant integrated bowsprit, which ensures:

  • an ideal position for connecting the tack angle of a code zero or gennaker
  • an ideal location for carrying an anchor, with a safe distance from the hull controlled by an optional electric winch ideal for a bow ladder that will make it easy to get on or off the boat in natural harbors or low docks.

Two rudder wheels

For the first time in a Hallberg-Rassy, two optional twin tiller wheels are offered. The standard version is with a rudder. In both cases, the deep cockpit offers the helmsman good lateral protection. The design provides an easy through of the cockpit. The length of the cockpit is 2.83 m, a full 42 cm longer than the previous 342. The design allows easy access from the transom

The rudder, as in the successful Hallberg-Rassy 44, has twin blades. This contributes to having a boat that is easily controllable in all sailing conditions, especially in rough weather. Because of the smaller area of each rudder, compared with a single rudder solution, rudder loads will also decrease, thus increasing the safety factor. Each rudder has double self-adjusting bearings that make it easy to steer in all conditions.

A clean deck layout

The halyards are hidden under the deckhouse and are operated by two winches on the cockpit rail, without interfering with the external chart tables.

There will be two winches on each coaming for sail handling. This will allow for electric winches without interfering with the height below deck. There is storage space for stopper lines aft. This helps keep the cockpit tidy for ropes. The deck layout is also neat and tidy, with an underdeck block for the headsail, deck hatches mounted flush and halyards running in hidden channels to the cockpit. An electric winch can also be mounted below deck.

Foldable small beach

For the first time in a boat of this size, Hallberg-Rassy offers the option of ordering a large folding swim platform. When the platform is closed, it integrates into an elegant closed transom. By default there is a fixed platform at the stern of the helmsman and a step to step down into the water.

Modern sailing facility

The sail plan is modern on the Hallberg-Rassy 340. The furler is a Furlex TD embedded in the deck. The high and low shrouds are attached to the hull with different metal plates, an invention of Hallberg-Rassy. This allows easy passage to the deck, good provision for furling and to create a large stable mast support. A powerful 1:32 backstay comes standard. There is also the possibility of obtaining an autovirating configuration. The waterline is 10.1 m, 1.01 m longer than the precursor 342.

According to Frers’ speed chart, a loaded Hallberg-Rassy 340 will register 7.31 knots in a 90-degree true wind angle with only 10 knots of true wind.

INTERIOR

Lots of natural light

There are four flush-mounted hatches, six opening portholes and three windows in the hull. All hatches and portholes have clear glass, except for the bathroom door, which is milk-colored to let light in but obscure the view. Hallberg-Rassy 340 lets in plenty of natural light and good ventilation throughout the interior.

Generous interior

The interior is unusually airy. The sofas of the are 2.00 m long and more to deep than usual. The position of the mast is out of the way immediately aft of the main bulkhead. Thanks to the special layout, the kitchen also contributes an unusually generous airiness to the living room.

The galley on the Hallberg-Rassy 340 is seafaring and does not get in the way of natural flow through the boat. The person in the galley does not hinder those who want to access the aft cabin. There are double deep sinks and a large refrigerator. The worktop in the kitchen is gritstone as standard. Cabin doors are vented and flush-mounted, and are equipped with invisible hinges with built-in end caps so that the door does not hit the furniture.

The forward cabin is very spacious and is considered the owner’s cabin. The length of the double berth is 2.04 m, 1.98 m wide at the aft end and a generous 62 cm at the foot end. The forward cabin of the Hallberg-Rassy 340 has two hanging lockers of its own, two make-up cabinets, several closets, and a deck hatch above the berth.

The bathroom has excellent ventilation with opening porthole and deck hatch. The sink and surrounding surface are made of grit. The exhaust can be drained to the sea or via a deck intake fitting provided as standard. The aft cabin is also spacious, with a very generous double bed, 173 cm at the top and a generous 142 cm at the bottom.

The new Hallberg-Rassy 340 replaces the 342, which was built in 329 units over 13 years. Although the 340 is larger and offers more volume than the 342, the price remains the same. At the same time, standard specifications are being adjusted to match the new expectations.
