ICE Yacht shipyard is proud to present ICE66rs. First model in a series born from collaboration with the highest names in yachting: Farr Yacht design for hull and naval architecture, Micheletti + Partners for styling
interior and exterior and Pure desing + Engineering for structural studies. Nothing less than the best is the shipyard’s slogan for this new line: “We wanted to collaborate with the best designers on the market to guarantee a boat that is light, fast, competitive and at the same time comfortable. The top on the market to bring the shipyard’s Made in Italy to an international level. This line is not intended to replace the existing production, but will flank it by addressing an audience that appreciates the solidity and performance of ICE Yachts but seeks a more futuristic design ” These are the statements of Ice Yachts CEO Marco Malgara.

Ice 66 RS – Exterior

The boat, in its first version, will have a glass-carbon sandwich construction with a full carbon deck that allows the stiffness of carbon to be combined with the natural vibration absorption qualities (and thus the
noise). A full carbon model for speed enthusiasts is already under consideration. The mast, strictly carbon, will carry a generous sail plan. The drift blade, made of double Weldox structure and the numerically controlled milled lead bulb will provide the solidity and strength needed to withstand the loads given by the large sail plan. The carbon rudder with 7-bar autoclave forged shaft studied and designed with state-of-the-art technology allows impressive control even when the boat is heeled or subjected to large aerodynamic loads,
always keeping a clear focus turned to the issue of safety, central to both design and construction.

“We finally measured ourselves with a beautiful yacht for racing and fast cruising! After two years of full immersion in America’s Cup and racer sophistication, we were able to devote ourselves to excellence on a project for the ‘market,’ for sailing and sea enthusiasts, for all those who do not want to give up performance while making all-around use of their boat. Technologies and materials have made tremendous progress and allow for the creation of objects that are lightweight and extremely strong, yet can provide comfort and quietness as well as being durable. The water lines were designed with the intention of taking the qualities of speed and seaworthiness, to which the shipyard’s clients are accustomed, to a new level. The hull is race-derived with a slightly reverse bow, as on the OR65s and always a stylistic feature of the shipyard. The maximum beam moved aft, powerful hull and significant righting moment allow this boat to aspire to compete with pure racers. The 3.35m draft was judged to be the best compromise between performance and accessibility in major Mediterranean ports. The large garage, record-breaking in its class and almost on a level with that of an 80-footer, is set up to transversely hold an inflated dinghy as large as 10 feet!

“ICE’s brief was enthusiastically received by our. Studying and working again with Lucio Micheletti (ed. after making the award-winning Baltic ‘Canova’) a real pleasure. The most interesting aspect was the freedom we were able to express in designing the hull, appendages and sail plan, which are at the top of all the experiences we have had over the years. We had a goal of maximum performance united with ease of operation. A modern and very fast boat that is nevertheless stable and precise. This boat will give fast cruising, but also the satisfactions in racing.”

Ice 66 RS – Cockpit

Farr Yacht Design (Annapolis – USA) comments, “The cockpit features classic Mediterranean style with ample seating and provision for outdoor living. The deckhouse features an automotive-derived design with wide paramare that conceal within them the exit of the sheets conveniently usable by one person through the 4 electric winches. Large front windows allow, from the dinette, a full view of the deck, resetting the interior/exterior separation to zero. A boat to be experienced at 360°.”

Ice 66 RS – Interior

Several layouts are being considered for this project; it certainly will not be the usual sailboat. The Raised Saloon typology allows greater freedom in room layout and provides better access to all facilities for
maintenance. This allowed Lucio Micheletti to design a boat with unthinkable spaces for this category. The Main Saloon, large and airy makes you think you are on a 70-footer. The classic 3-cabin 3-bathroom layout is joined by a 4-cabin 4-bathroom option that allows for a totally independent twin for crew or younger children.

The special feature of this line is that it will be extensively customizable; the entire ICE Yachts technical department and the Micheletti + Partners studio will collaborate in creating the ideal boat for each owner.

Lucio Micheletti (Milan – ITA), Designer at Micheletti + Partners Studio, says, “We thought we would find ourselves and start again with a new project, a concept where lightness and design play with unprecedented forms. We thought ICE could be the right theater to do experimentation. The challenge is high, because boats between 16 and 24 meters are the most difficult. They are big, but not very big. You have to combine efficiency, comfort and practicality in volumes that never give anything away. And of course, as with all boats, they have to be a pleasure to the eye. I tried to stay clean without adding anything that is not useful and functional, for the exteriors, and to reward the feeling of space and brightness in the interiors that are also very very practical. The result is innovative, but not gratuitous. I am happy with what has been achieved outside and inside.”
