MAY 7/8, 2022 – TAG Heuer Vela Cup / ICE Cup | Chiavari-Calata Ovest
Two days at sea in one of Italy’s most beautiful gulfs. And on Saturday evening, the prize-giving party in the square, in compliance with anticovid regulations. Also up for grabs is a valuable TAG Heuer Aquaracer.
WHERE AND WHEN. Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 in Chiavari, capital of the Tigullio Gulf, eastern Liguria.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE. Any type of boat from 4 meters and up, no certicate required. First place wins, with divisions by homogeneous length classes, “cruising” and “racing” categories.
ICE CUP. This year the ICE CUP, the regatta within a regatta reserved for ICE YACHTS boats, will be held in Chiavari. Owners only need to fill out the entry form below to register.
FREE MOORINGS. The West Calata Marina in Chiavari offers free moorings to boats from outside the Tigullio area that participate.
DURATION AND ROUTE. The “Regatta” lasts no longer than three to four hours. The route is coastal, in the Gulf of Tigullio: starting from Chiavari and touching Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino.
THE EQUIPMENT. You do not have to be an experienced sailor to participate.

AWARDS. Prizes are awarded to the first in each class in the “cruising” and “racing” categories. The overall winner on corrected time among all participants wins the prestigious TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch, and a Garmin inReach will be drawn.

THE TAPE.
Are you ready to return to the sea, to have fun in complete safety?
The right occasion is the first leg of the 2022 TAG Heuer VELACup circuit, in Chiavari, capital of the Gulf of Tigullio, on the weekend of May 7/8. Two days in which, in one of Italy’s most beautiful gulfs, dozens of boats compete in two regattas/sailings with a fascinating coastal course bounded by the Sestri Levante peninsula and the tip of Portofino, skirting the Santa Margherita Ligure bight.
A regatta reserved for boats from the ICE Yachts shipyard also takes place on May 7/8. The boats will take part in the TAG Heuer VELA Cup by participating in the regatta within the regatta, thus entering both rankings.
WHERE
It is based in Chiavari, in the efficient and convenient Marina Calata Ovest, which offers free mooring to boats arriving from “outside” and are not residents of the Gulf of Tigullio.
The city of Chiavari, n hosts the award ceremonies on Saturday (from 7 p.m.) and Sunday where, complying with all anti covid regulations, the winners can be celebrated. There will be many, because at the TAG Heuer VELACup, “almost” everyone wins. And the prizes are prestigious, starting with the splendid TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch that will be awarded to the winning boat in the handicap ranking.
Therefore, it will not necessarily be the largest boat that will win it. This is all thanks to our formula for evaluating who performed best, regardless of the type of boat. And by its size.
The TAG Heuer VELACup on May 7/8 is also a great reason to spend a weekend visiting Chiavari, its “carrugi” and ancient arcades, its historic stores, and its precious beach.
SAILING CUP AND SAILING CUP CHALLENGE
LA VELA CUP is the Tigullio classic, Saturday, May 7 with hundreds of boats on the starting line for a great celebration of sailing. If you feel like sailing for two days take part in the VELA CUP CHALLENGE, it will be Saturday and Sunday with coastal routes and sailing for fun and healthy competition. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 8.
