Swan 98

Designed by the experienced and renowned Germán Frers, the all-new 30-meter Swan 98 will redefine high-performance cruising by offering unparalleled comfort, safety and reliability. The elegance and style of Frers’ design is embodied in Nautor’s Swan’s state-of-the-art superyacht facility in Pietarsaari, Finland, using the finest materials, state-of-the-art construction techniques, and craftsmanship for which Nautor’s Swan is recognized worldwide.

The Swan 98 is a 21st century superyacht, representing the best in contemporary performance cruising yacht design. The Swan 98 blends the elegance and style of Frers’ design with the finest materials, state-of-the-art construction techniques, and craftsmanship for which Nautor’s Swan is recognized worldwide.

Inside this elegant hull are interiors designed by acclaimed Genoese architect Misa Poggi. Two interior layouts are available (Owner Aft and Owner Forward cabins plus 3 guest cabins, each with private baths) where he developed four options for the Swan 98 project, each featuring the finest Italian fabrics and leathers to create an environment of comfort and luxury, whether for relaxing alone or entertaining guests. The standard Swan 98 has full equipment but there is an extensive list of options that means no two Swan 98s will be the same; each is a semi-custom superyacht that reflects its owner’s unique style.

Chief among these is the telescoping keel option, which, together with standard twin rudders, reduces draft from 4.9 to 3.2 meters, opening up a world of shallow bays, picturesque harbors and remote, pristine anchorages without compromising upwind performance. Again, its design has been optimized for maximum safety and reliability and has the advantage of not interfering with the interior.

Swan 98 – Hull

The Swan 98 is built, as you would expect, without compromise. Both the hull and deck are constructed with SPRINT® epoxy pre-preg carbon fiber inner and outer skins on a Corecell grade M foam core. This gives maximum structural stiffness and rigidity at the lightest possible weight, while ensuring absolute structural safety and reliability. The hull is laid in a female mold made with the same technology to ensure the same mechanical properties when the hull is carefully treated in a highly advanced oven installed at the new Nautor’s Swan superyacht facility in early 2018.

From the hull that maximizes the length of the waterline, the linear sides that gently extend from stern to bow to an elegant low-profile deckhouse. The hull profile is enhanced in the flared stern with powerful and dynamic volumes above the waterline. It is designed to offer the optimal blend of balance, and its twin rudders give a sense of total control and intimate connection with the sea.

The hull carries almost all of its maximum beam to the stern, offering excellent form stability while creating generous volume below in the reserved cabins and social spaces. The transom folds hydraulically to create a teak-lined swim platform and reveals a garage for a 4-meter tender.

As for the equipment, the Swan 98 is designed to enable worldwide navigation without compromise. It has a generous tank for both water and fuel, all of which can be easily inspected.S eight the raised salon is a full-beam engine room that provides excellent maintenance access to its 279-hp Steyr main engine, generator, and other equipment.

Deck

The deck itself combines the considerable superyacht experience of Nautor’s Swan and Germán Frers, providing dual-use spaces for both efficient sailing and classy relaxation. The spacious open foredeck provides the perfect anchor sundeck and space for sail handling while cruising. Aft of the deckhouse is a “large” leisure cockpit completely clear of rigging that allows the owner and guests to relax while sailing and enjoying the sun, sheltered by a sprayhood that disappears into a recess in the deckhouse when not in use. At anchor, this cockpit becomes a social lounge space with versatile deck sofas, the perfect place to relax at sunset, and again transforms into an elegant dining area, shaded by an optional bimini. There is ample deck space in the stern that serves as a well-protected sunbathing area when at anchor and ample room to maneuver while sailing.

Further aft is a second drop below deck, providing easy access to the deck for the owner or crew, depending on the interior layout chosen. Then there are the twin wheelhouses, from which the skipper can manage all sailing maneuvers, as the Swan 98 offers true automatic “push-button” navigation. The anchor is launched and retrieved via a retractable and folding hydraulic arm, a design that has proven its reliability and ease of use for many years. This outstanding performance cruiser has abundant deck storage in both a spacious sail locker in the bow and a full-beam “lazarette” in the stern. For those who want to race, there is a complete racing package that includes a square-top mainsail with flying rigging. The package also includes a double-length bowsprit to quickly use powerful gennakers at the masthead.

Interior

Two interior layouts are available, each designed for maximum comfort on board. The fully furnished, full-beam owner’s suite is either forward or aft, and features Misa Poggi’s four elegant designs, with private bathrooms and walk-in closets, available in the Owner Aft layout.

“The premise of the project was to consider the genius loci as contact with the sea, an element that requires total respect and has a strongly magical element. The design philosophy is based on the fact that past and future are tradition and innovation merging together in the design idea, without unnecessary extremism or virtuosity. The basic principles are exactness and method, as well as the unchanging habit of involving craftsmanship and the use of real, natural and traditional materials. All this contributes to creating an aesthetic value that goes beyond fashions and trends, interpreting the Client’s dreams and needs and responding to their customization requirements,” commented Misa Poggi.

In addition, there are three ensuite guest cabins, one double and two twin, and two twin crew cabins, also ensuite. In both layouts, for privacy, the kitchen is close to the crew quarters and provides everything needed for anytime use with ease. In the center of the yacht, flooded with natural light from the deckhouse above, is the salon, with a lounge area to port and a dining room to starboard. As a blue water performance cruiser, abundance of stowage is an important requirement and is provided unobtrusively without compromising ease of access.
