Y8

Y8

One size. Three boats

The history of Y Yachts began with Y8. Its clean but aggressive lines, fast hull and easy sailing have seduced many sailors. To build the various boats in the series, Michael Schmidt’s shipyard worked with star designers, who supplied three different variations of the boat (DC, SRD, SRD+). Names like Luca Brenta Design, Sir David Chipperfield, Lorenzo Argento Yacht Design and Design Unlimited have all left their mark on the boats. But in the end, each new project is unique; unique for the owner.

Description

Concept

This astonishing 80′ (23.99 m x 6.00 m), in lightened carbon, has been designed to give the owner the possibility to steer and manoeuvre in total autonomy from the stern cockpit. Such a clean and “flush” deck is a joy for the eyes.

“Yachts have become more and more complicated. Equipment manufacturers have introduced a lot of unnecessary functions and systems which only generate complexity and cause problems on board. Y Yachts creates yachts with no more than the necessary features for sailing fast and yet easily in comfort. It was not simple for our team of experts to put their fingers on precisely what was needed and what was not in order to reach that goal. But together, YYachts developed new ideas to help our owners keep it simple and enjoy their sailing day”.

Y8 DC by David Chipperfield

In order of time, the first model produced was the Y8 DC, whose interior was designed by archistar Sir David Chipperfield, who made simplicity and attention to detail the “supporting pillar” below deck.

Carefully selected materials such as natural leather, brushed stainless steel and immaculate natural woods create a new kind of interior. Y Yachts interior design solutions are cleverly thought out. “We have taken care of all the details – so you can concentrate on sailing”, they say.

Despite the Y8’s impressive size, a light breeze is enough to get the boat clipping along, thanks to fast lines from Studio Brenta and Lorenzo Argento. The sophisticated selection and positioning of fittings and equipment mean that the Y8 can be manoeuvered with just a few simple steps.

Y8 SRD (Semi Raised Deck)

With years of sailing experience, interior designer Mark Tucker, owner of Design Unlimited, has created a classic, warm and inviting interior for the Y8 SRD.

His goal was to draw a yacht that could be sailed in great comfort by a family without professional crew.

Since customization is one of the keys to Y Yachts, you can design the interior of the Y8 SRD according to your wishes, from the layout and number of cabins to the choice of the interior designer.

Y8 SRD+

The new Y8 SRD+, currently under construction and due to be launched in 2021, is a real PLUS in the Y8 range.

Drawing on the experience gathered from previously launched Y8s, we have  worked with the future owners to develop the design further. We now present her with a fully-integrated bowsprit, which allows even more sail area, while also stowing the anchor safely on the underside . The cockpit is larger now and offers a U-shaped lounge area. Below deck, the stern area offers even more space for your ideas, so if you want a full-beam owner’s cabin, guest cabins or crew area with galley, she is a real PLUS.
