INFLATABLE BOATS UNDER 10 METERS BEST OF 2020 Among the thousands of possibilities in boating, there is one type of boat that has been experiencing a big wave of success in recent years: the inflatable boat. The sea is associated with an idea of freedom and leisure. And the inflatable boat is definitely one of the most widely used means of approaching the world of boating. Depending on your approach to the sea, your tastes (and not least your wallet) there is a right dinghy for practically everyone. Especially in the case of the “Under Ten” Born as means for work, or at any rate for very practical use, they have been able to change shape and evolve, coming to embrace even a more sophisticated audience, who in their boat seek something practical, yes, but also powerful and comfortable. What the vast majority of ribs (rigid inflatable boats) have in common, to put it in English, is a performance hull, even when the footprint is of the pure cruiser. Of course, they are not all the same. In fact, there are so many types of inflatable boats coexisting today. Today we will look at 5 of the best inflatable boats under 10 meters! But before you go and find out about them, subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications so you don’t miss the next videos! 2020’S BEST INFLATABLE BOATS UNDER 10M Go to event

There are some boats that, more than others, make us dream. Joshua evokes Moitessier ‘s exploits as Calypso reminds us all of Commander Cousteau‘s documentaries. But why does a boat make us fall in love? It’s not the lines or the design of the deckhouse, it’s not the wins or its speed, it’s all about the heart. Once landed, 99 percent of sailors like to take a tour of the harbor to see which boats will keep their beauty company for at least one night. It is a matter of enthusiasm; like a child who swoons over the toy he has always wanted we sailors often settle for just a picture from the dock with the boat whose history and exploits you know by heart behind you. In this video we have chosen 30 ageless boats that excite and unite hundreds of thousands of sailors around the world. The basis from which we start is an article in the Journal of Sailing in which we examine not 30 but 100 boats of all types and sizes that have made sailing history and still thrill today. Let’s go right away to check if your favorite is there too. It works through an ancient technology that was also rediscovered by NASA, is environmentally friendly, quiet, produces no vibration, and is “motorless.” Mobil Tech’s ZEUS200 generator for small and medium-sized boats impressed us so much that we decided to go and find out more about how this ingenious Made in Italy product was born and how it works. DISCOVER ZEUS200 IN THE MOBIL TECH BOOTH NOW At Milan Yachting Week it is one of the most visited products. The figure does not surprise us because, before Mobil Tech’s ZEUS200 generator came on the market, a real solution for small and medium-sized sailboats (9 meters and above, to be clear) did not exist. Born out of Mobil Tech’s experience in the RV industry, for which the company has been making similar generators for years, ZEUS200 produces 200 W (at 12 V it delivers 15 amps) weighs 36.5 kilograms and is compact (670x330x305 mm is the size), but that’s not the point. The keys to its success are its very low noise, its very low fuel consumption, and its almost complete lack of maintenance. How is this possible? Simple. This generator does not have a motor. Or rather, not a conventional diesel combustion engine. AN ANCIENT SECRET To understand its secret, explains Simone Barin, Mobil Tech’s technical manager, we need to take a step back. “We use technology that dates back to the late 1800s. Discovered by the Estonian physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck and fell into disuse until NASA optimized it starting in the 1970s and used it for its probes because of its high reliability and independence. Just think that Voyager 2, launched into space in 1977, still operates today thanks to the Seebeck power generation system“. But what is the working principle? The effect consists of the passage of electric current when two dissimilar metals joined together are placed at different temperatures: “ZEUS200 has inside it twelve Seebeck modules of about 6 x 6 cm, composed of two ‘sides’ of different metals, specifically tellurium and bismuth. By heating one side of these modules with a small 5 kW oil burner-derived from the world of heaters and therefore silent and proven-and at the same time cooling the other side with a closed circuit (consisting of fresh water, exchanger, seawater), the thermal differential generates energy. There are no moving parts as there are in endothermic engines. Forget about maintenance!” SILENT AND “ECHO” Diesel fuel consumption? “At least five times less than a conventional diesel generator, we are talking about 0.2-0.6 liters per hour.” The noise? “Just like that of a heater-so absolutely negligible.” It certainly generates less power than a diesel generator, but its quiet operation, low power consumption, and the fact that once installed on board you forget about it are making it a bestseller, especially in the world of smaller boats. Otherwise, it functions like a normal genset: it can supply power to two battery banks (starter and services) and in turn handle other energy sources such as solar panels, turbines or hydro generators, prioritizing free energy. It works with any type of battery (lead, AGM, gel, lithium) and has the advantage of being “smart”: “ZEUS200 is programmed with 16 algorithms that optimize charging depending on the battery and automatically turns off and on depending on the state of charge.” The retail price of ZEUS200 is 4,800 euros + VAT. Dfter your 120,000 online votes (never so many to TAG Heuer’s Sailor of the Year), we expected that the Evening of Champions, in which the Sailing Newspaper jury would unveil all the 2021 winners, would also be epic. Just like the 30th edition of the most prestigious prize in Italian sailing, awarded by the Giornale della Vela since 1991. And so it was. Relive the excitement of the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year Evening of Champions – Epic 30th Edition! ALL SAILOR OF THE YEAR AWARDEES TAG HEUER 2021 – EPIC 30TH EDITION (AND WHY THEY WON) TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year 2021 – Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team For the first time in the history of the Sailor of the Year, the most prestigious award in Italian sailing, given to those who have been able to excite us the most during the season, was won by a team. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, represented by president Patrizio Bertelli, team manager Max Sirena, coxswain Checco Bruni and tactician clubman Pietro Sibello (but the team consisted of more than 120 people). Luna Rossa’s America’s Cup adventure finally brought sailing back into the homes of Italians, and the 7-3 defeat in the final to the New Zealanders still represents the best result in history for Italy at the world’s oldest sporting competition. A very well-deserved award! Here is the video interview with Patrizio Bertelli and Marco Tronchetti Provera Here is the video interview with Checco Bruni and Pietro Sibello The Sailor of the Year Epic 30th Edition – Paul Cayard In this particular edition of the Sailor of the Year, there was a special award, “Epic,” reserved for the most significant of the strongest sailors of the past 30 years in Italy. In the end, a non-Italian won, although he “paisà” really feels and has done everything to become one. Paul Cayard. Incredible is the affection still shown to him by the public, 29 years after the adventure of Raul Gardini’s Moro di Venezia, which saw him, at the helm, star in the America’s Cup final. A reciprocated affection: in the many interviews he has given us in the last period, the memory of Italy is indelible in the head of Cayard, who even has a daughter born in Italy, Alessandra. For us he will always remain “Pauline”! Video interview with Paul Cayard here TAG Heuer #don’tcrackunderpressure award – Giancarlo Pedote We had no doubt about the winner of the TAG Heuer #don’tcrackunderpressure award, for those who proved they never give up. Giancarlo Pedote, who finished the Vendée Globe, a non-stop solo round-the-world race, in 8th place, the best Italian ever. Here is the video interview with Giancarlo Pedote TAG Heuer Performance Award – Andrea “Prince” Baldini The TAG Heuer Performance award, reserved for those who have made the pursuit of performance their way of life, could only go to Andrea “Prince” Baldini. The man who flies his windsurfer over 40 knots and created the Prince of Speed event where hundreds of world water speed records have been broken. Here is the video interview with “Prince” Baldini TAG Heuer Innovation Award – Luca Bassani If today on your cruising boat from the helm you can adjust the sails, you owe it to this man. Luca Bassani has reinvented sailing for the past 30 years with his Wallys, making it easy. The TAG Heuer Innovation award, reserved for those who have made a special contribution in the world of design, could only go to him. Here is the video interview with Luca Bassani TAG Heuer Young Award – Rebecca Geiger The TAG Heuer Young award, for a young talent in Italian competitive sailing, was won by Rebecca Geiger of Trieste, 14 years old and grit to spare. She won the Women’s Optimist European Championship last year and has a bright future ahead of her. Here is the video interview with Rebecca Geiger TAG Heuer Passion Award – Marta Magnano Is it not pure passion for sailing to give up the land life and move to live aboard a Grand Soleil 34, at only 28 years old? Marta Magnano, who is now 30 years old, just like The Sailor of the Year, is the winner of the TAG Heuer Passion award, dedicated to those who have managed to turn their passion for sailing into a lifestyle. Here is the video interview with Marta Magnano TAG Heuer Most Voted Award – Simone Camba With 13,418 total votes on our website, he was the candidate who received the most votes in the history of TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year. Simone Camba is the TAG Heuer Most Voted. A great certificate of appreciation from the public for what the sailor does for social inclusion with his association “Newsardinia Sail.” Here is the video interview with Simone Camba An iconic watch for iconic sailors All award recipients at the Evening of Champions received a valuable TAG Heuer Aquaracer chronograph, which got a redesign this year that made it even more unique. It can withstand depths of up to 300 meters, is virtually indestructible and is a faithful companion on every sailor’s wrist. www.tagheuer.com HOW TO REVIEW ALL THE EPISODES OF THE TAG HEUER SAILOR OF THE YEAR 2021 – EPIC 30TH EDITION All episodes of the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year – Epic 30th Edition and the Evening of Champions can be reviewed, whenever you want, on the Giornale della Vela Youtube channel, on our Facebook page, on GdV’s Instagram TV and in theevents area of Milano Yachting Week. In this special episode, the last before the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year – Epic 30th Edition Evening of Champions, we interviewed finalist Patrizio Bertelli, president of Luna Rossa, along with an unexpected guest: Marco Tronchetti Provera, CEO of Pirelli and crucial partner in Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team’s America’s Cup campaign. We anticipate a key moment: the one in which Bertelli “seizes the moment” and engages Tronchetti on Luna Rossa’s future at the next America’s Cup: “My task now is to engage Marco to participate with us again as Pirelli. But I don’t do that now. I will do so this summer when he invites me on his Kauris IV, And while he will be happy at the helm, I will ask him the trick question. And he can only say yes to me“. Twenty-nine years after what was the Moro di Venezia’s great Italian adventure, people have not forgotten him and that is why they voted for him so much, taking him all the way to the final stage of the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year – Epic 30th Edition. You know who we are talking about, the great Paul Cayard, former 1993 Sailor of the Year. The Moro’s helmsman is an absolute star player (world champion in ’88), triumphed with the Italian team in the ’95 Admiral’s Cup and the ’97 Whitbread (now known as the Volvo Ocean Race) at the helm of Sweden’s EF Language. Today he has shaved off his famous mustache, but he is still going strong on the race courses, especially on the Star his favorite boat. Here is what Paul Cayard told our Mino Taveri and Bacci Del Buono in this long interview!| Why the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year is unmissable An unmissable TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year: we asked you to vote for who, among the 100 most significant sailors of the past 30 years selected by the editorial staff, was the one who most moved you. “What is certain is that I, for sailing, have given everything.” And thankfully: we have Luca Bassani, the sixth of the finalists for the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year – Epic 30th Edition we present, to thank for the fact that boating is easier today than it was 30 years ago. Wally’s founder has reinvented boating since 1989, taking it to previously unthinkable levels of comfort and easy sailing. His Wallys have set new standards: boating must be simple first and foremost. As he says, “elegance comes as a result.” Why the TAG Heuer 2021 Sailor of the Year is unmissable An unmissable TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year: we asked you to vote for who, among the 100 most significant sailors of the past 30 years selected by the editorial staff, was the one who most moved you. The series will be best of 13 races; the first to reach 7 wins will win. Needless to say, the stakes are enormous, and in fact already a few days ago we received notice from Luna Rossa’s team that the sailors will not be giving interviews or statements in these approaching hours to eve, due to a press silence that has already lasted for a few days. Max Sirena closed everyone in the “bubble” the last hours before such an important regatta for the careers of all Luna Rossa team men should be lived with serenity and concentration. THE WEATHER. The big topic these hours, of course, is weather conditions, with a first day of the America’s Cup, from two races up for grabs, expected to take place in winds around 15 knots from the northeast, with possible strengthening to as high as 17-18 knots. Under these conditions it is likely that Race Director Ian Murray will take the two boats to the A course, as he has done at other times during the Prada Cup. The weather theme clearly overlaps with that of the boats, and the fact that theoretically the wind conditions on the first day could be more favorable to Team New Zealand. With a continuation of the series, starting on the 12th (racing every day until the conclusion) that could instead feature very light winds. But in New Zealand everything changes in a matter of hours, and even the forecast for the first day may vary slightly. THE PRESENTATION OF THE MATCH We will discuss this and much more in a special episode of The Cup Journal, March 9 at 1 p.m., live on Facebook and YouTube. Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè’s guests will be Mino Taveri, Giovanni Ceccarelli and designers from Northern Light Composites. Go to event

It’s America’s Cup, 21 years later, in the same place, where it all began. Luna Rossa is the official challenger for the 36th America’Cup, the third time for an Italian crew after Moro di Venezia in 1992 and Luna Rossa itself in 2000. The final day of racing in Auckland has no history, in the light wind the Italian boat dominates Ineos without appeal. The Cup Newspaper returns live from Sunday, February 21, at 1 p.m. Our Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè will have as guests Gabriele Bruni, Dede De Luca, David Ingiosi and Federico Albano to comment on what happened on day four of the Prada Cup final between Luna Rossa and Ineos, live on our Facebook page, on Youtube and in the events area of Milano Yachting Week. An unmissable meeting. Who better to tell us about the America’s Cup “from the inside” than Paul Cayard, the helmsman of Moro di Venezia (in the America’s Cup final in 1992) and Luna Rossa’s great opponent in the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup? The most famous mustache (or rather ex-baffo!) in Italian sailing – even though he is from California! – tells his story to our microphones. And we talk about the Cup that is getting Italian fans excited about Luna Rossa’s adventures! Paul Cayard WHO IS PAUL CAYARD The only non-Italian Sailor of the Year was Paul Cayard, legendary American helmsman of Raul Gardini’s Moro di Venezia, who came to benefit i the America’s Cup in 1992. An outstanding star player (world champion in ’88), he triumphed with the Italian team in the ’95 Admiral’s Cup and the ’97 Whitbread (now known as the Volvo Ocean Race) at the helm of Sweden’s EF Language. Today he has shaved off his famous mustache, but he is still going strong on the race courses. He was born in San Francisco in 1959. Go to event

Our own Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè will then turn on the microphones for another evening of great sailing in the company of the man who, in just under 81 days, took his Imoca 60 Prysmian Group to complete the most iconic of ocean races. Speaking of Prysmian, in addition to Giancarlo we will also have as a guest Francesco Zecchi, Marketing Director South Europe Region for Prysmian Group. With both of them we will also explore the topic of the relationship between sponsors and ocean sailing and between sponsors and skippers, and experience the behind-the-scenes of a partnership that has been going on for many years now. He will not be the only guest from the evening, for Giancarlo we will also have a surprise. Go to event

During a visit by Giovanni Soldini to the Boero Group plant (famous among boaters with its Veneziani brand), we took the opportunity to ask the great sailor a few questions on the subject of antifoulings, paints, enamels. What products he uses on his very fast Maserati flying trimaran that can also be used by people who boat for pleasure, the importance of the entire paint cycle in terms of durability and weight savings (and thus greater sailing performance). And again, what are the waters in which algae and “biofouling” become most invasive thus making it necessary to pay more attention to the issue of antifouling. A talk to be listened to carefully and drawn from. The antifouling that John calls “Carbon Speed” in the video is Veneziani’s Speedy Carbonium, a hyper-performing product that you can find HERE. DISCOVER ALL BOER GROUP PRODUCTS HERE To learn more about the Boero products used by Soldini on Maserati, click HERE. WHO IS GIOVANNI SOLDINI Italy’s most famous sailor was born in Milan on May 16, 1966, and began sailing as a child. He has 30 years of ocean racing behind him, including two solo round-the-world races (one win and one second place), six Québec-Saint Malo (one win in the monohull class), six Ostar (two wins in the 50-foot class and 40-foot class), three Jacques Vabre (one win in the 40-foot class), and more than 40 trans-oceanic races. Aboard the VOR70 Maserati set the Cadiz-San Salvador record and the Golden Route record by covering the 13,225-mile distance between New York and San Francisco in 47 days, 42 minutes and 29 seconds. In 2015, he set the groundbreaking Tea Route record, covering the distance between San Francisco and Shanghai in just over 21 days. With the trimaran Multi70 Maserati, he set the record on the Hong Kong-London route and recently won line honors in the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Go to event

The day on the water was one to drive the tacticians crazy, with gusty, swinging winds of 10 to 20 knots and two boats, Luna Rossa and Ineos Team UK, vying for a spot in the Prada Cup finals. Race Director Ian Murray’s choice to opt for the more subcoastal race course appears questionable, but an enthralling match ensued, with as many as nine lead changes. Luna Rossa fights back, plays it even, even looks like it could take it home, but in the end Ben Ainslie and Giles Scott ‘s paw came, thanks in part to a boat that appeared slightly superior in terms of speed, especially in the stern. At 1 p.m. new episode of The Cup Journal, live on our page Facebook, on the channel Youtube and in the events area of Milan Yachting Week with guests Federvela President Francesco Ettorre, Luca Rizzotti, Foiling Week founder and Persico Marine man, and young Clelia Sessa from the Moth world. Still the wind to be the master in the Hauraki Gulf, this time tense but still decisive with variations in intensity and direction. Luna Rossa chews bitterly for the first race cancelled against the British, where it seemed to be well ahead, even as Ben Ainslie in the second one proves once again that he is the most fit man in this Prada Cup. In the second match of the day the twist. American Magic capsizes and goes one step short of sinking, Luna Rossa goes for a point on a very difficult day. Still uncertain is the fate of Patriot, the American boat, which may have significant damage on board. At 1 p.m. new episode of Il Giornale della Coppa, live on our Facebook page, Youtube channel and in the events area of Milano Yachting Week, with guests Nacra national team coach Gabriele Bruni, brother of Luna Rossa’s helmsman, and journalist Fabio Pozzo of La Stampa. The reaction of champions was needed, and it came. Luna Rossa brings home the first point of the Prada Cup by beating American Magic in a thriller race in the light wind. The Bruni-Spithill pair is back on top, rediscovered from their debut day in terms of coolness and ability to perform under pressure. The crisis of the Americans continues, still suffering performance-wise and with a cockpit still uncertain in some circumstances, starting with Dean Barker always struggling under stress. AC 75s in light winds prove unpredictable, always hovering between displacement and foil trim. At 1 p.m. new episode of Il Giornale della Coppa, live on our Facebook page, Youtube channel and in the events area of Milano Yachting Week, with guests photographer Martina Orsini and Nacra 17 Olympic helmsman Vittorio Bissaro. Ben Ainslie had already had his mocking grin for days, and the first day of the Prada Cup marks a resounding comeback for the British boat, which won both races against American Magic and Luna Rossa and made an at least partly unexpected show of strength. Ineos Team UK first scrambles the Americans, who appeared to be in a performance slump and with a struggling Dean Barker. The Bruni-Spithill pair almost exceeds in aggressiveness at the start, and against the tactically perfect Ainslie-Scott firm and a Britannia as competitive as ever, comes the first Italian defeat. We talked about this in The Cup Journal with Luca Bassani and David Ingiosi. Go to event

Almost there, the America’s Cup gets into full swing with the Prada Cup (Jan. 15-Feb. 22). Now the game will really be played out: we will understand the real strength of Luna Rossa, American Magic and – we hope for them-if Ineos’ Brits have managed to close the performance gap with the challengers. In the meantime, we at the Sailing Newspaper are preparing. In fact, it will also return with regattas The Cup Journal which for this first phase of the Prada Cup will go live every day after racing at 1 p.m. on our channel Youtube and on Facebook (with all episodes also visible In the events area of Milan Yachting Week), with the first episode on Jan. 14. A very rich schedule (and what guests!). The preview episode on the 14th will feature guests sailing newspaper editor-in-chief Eugenio Ruocco and designer Matteo Polli, in that of January 15. Luca Bassani, founder of Wally and journalist David Ingiosi… And this is just “the appetizer”: throughout the episodes, to name a few, we will have guests such as Gabriele Bruni, Fabio Pozzo, Martina Orsini, Maelle Frascari, Vittorio Bissaro, Claudia Rossi, Francesco Ettorre… Along with of course our “hosts” Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè, and there will be no shortage of contributions from New Zealand. As always, we will answer questions from the audience and all curiosities. Go to event

Here is our long chat with Tilli Antonelli, one of the great figures in the boating and powerboat world (among his achievements the founding of Pershing, that of Wider, and now the design of a futuristic range of powerboats with Sanlorenzo). With an important background in sailing. The video discusses everything from the America’s Cup (“These boats make motorboats envious, but it’s not sailing that I’m in love with”) to his first steps as a sailor at Circolo Velico Ravennate. And then, the meeting that changed his life. It all starts in sailing, with Raul Gardini. So many anecdotes in the video, from when Raul “landed” it at Admiral’s to peace and the Naïf. Hence the regattas and the design of the first Moro of Venice. In the process, Tilli also gained knowledge as a sailmaker and took part in regattas around the world, including the famous and terrible 1979 Fastnet. Upon returning from this experience, he happened to be in Fano on an outing on behalf of a construction site for a photo shoot. Tilli, seeking technical knowledge about boat building, accepts a job offer from that same boatyard. A year later, with two partners he met there, he founded the Adriatic Shipyard… Go to event

Go to event

No racing on the final day of this America’s Cup appetizer, which included as its menu the Christmas Race, a mini final tournament between defender Team New Zealand and the three challengers. The wind did not lay down in Hauraki Gulf and the race committee, after starting the match between Emirates Team New Zealand and Ineos Team UK, a race that failed as the maximum time was exceeded, sent everyone ashore. So goes these America’s Cup appetizers, the last chance to see the defender Team New Zealand at work, which will now go into “ghost mode” during the Prada Cup in January and we won’t see it again until March for the America’s Cup. However, the Cup Newspaper had the following as guests. John Ceccarelli, a designer who participated in the America’s Cup, and Alessandro Smerchinich of the PoliTo Sailing Team, who joined our own Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè, live on our page Facebook, on our channel Youtube and in the event space of the Milan Yachting Week. 17/12/20 – Auckland (NZL).36th America’s Cup presented by PradaRace Day 1Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, Emirates Team New Zealand First night, Italian, of racing from Auckland, first impressions, first sweet and bitter emotions for Luna Rossa at the World Series. We will discuss this in detail in the 1 p.m. episode of the “The Cup Newspaper”, with guests “guru” Luca Bassani, the founder of the Wally brand, and David Ingiosi, kiter, journalist, and eclectic sailor, who will keep our Bacci Del Buono and Mauro Giuffrè company, live on our page Facebook, on our channel Youtube and in this Milan Yachting Week event space. The performance of the boats is developing, and there are still many small and big problems to be solved by the teams. Therefore, it is difficult to be able to draw precise conclusions. The close confrontation between American Magic and Emirates Team New Zealand is certainly good news for the Cup because it portends that close racing, when the boats are at the top, may be a reality. Luna Rossa brings home positive indications in terms of clean flight and maneuvering ability, less good feelings in terms of pure speed. Decidedly solid, concrete and competitive American Magic which, despite being favored by the technical problem that affected the Kiwis with the delay in the prestart, has certainly shown that it is extremely competitive and tomorrow against Luna Rossa goes in search of further confirmation. On Saturday, December 19, 2020, the new president of FIV, the Italian sailing federation, is elected. We already know who he is. The new president is Francis Hector who is the only candidate for president. Ettore, who has already been president of the IVF for the past four years, gave us an interesting, no-nonsense video interview. “The IVF is the federation for all sailors, from those who start with Optimist to those who crew in offshore races.” This is the universal message that the president is keen to reiterate. The folly of the World Federation In the interview he tells interesting background. Like the stormy meetings of Word Sailing (the world sailing federation) where, he says, “It’s crazy that four years before the next Olympics in Paris 2024, we still don’t know what the new offshore boat (mixed doubles cabin cruiser) will be raced in.” And he reinforces his opinion, “the vision of Word Sailing is geared more to marketing…business than to the athletes. They, the athletes, are the essence of the Olympics, the ones who create the spectacle that must remain sporting…the best in the world must go to the Olympics. And it is they who must be protected first and foremost.” How does the IVF want to improve Ettore in this video interview traces his vision on the future of sailing, what the Federation is doing to be more efficient, less bureaucratic, closer to the enthusiasts and sailing clubs, the difficulties of the pandemic and relations with the Ministry. Hector does not deny the problems, but he has clear ideas about what can be improved. You will want to listen to what he told us, just hours after his re-election as president of all of us sailors. Good viewing. Who is Francis Ettorre Born in Giulianova (Teramo) in 1970, married with a son and a Certified Public Accountant, Francesco Ettorre began as a racer for many years in the dinghy and Olympic classes, sailing instructor, club executive and later peripheral and central federal executive until becoming vice president and then president of FIV since 2016. He is elected in late December again as president for a second term. Go to event

We will have with us live on all our social and web channels, two-time Sailor of the Year Ambrogio Beccaria, the only Italian to have won the Mini Transat. With him we will take stock of his experience one year after winning the legendary race, but the chat with Ambrose will also be an opportunity to take stock of the world of ocean sailing, to understand where the sport is heading. The event is organized by Milano Yachting Week, Giornale della Vela, Lega Navale di Milano and Centro Velico di Caprera, live with Ambrogio will be Mauro Giuffrè for Giornale della Vela and Paolo Martano for LNI and C.V. Caprera. An appointment not to be missed with one of the rising stars of Italian sailing. Who is Ambrose Beccaria Class of 1991, from Milan, he took part in a Mini Transat in 2017 as an outsider (but after having performed well in the Italian racing circuit), and only a bowsprit breakage in the second leg precluded him from an important result. He tries again in 2019 with a new boat and becomes the first Italian to win in the temple of French offshore sailing. His 2020 has been divided between some experience on new boats, with much focus on the foil world thanks to experiences in Figaro 3 and with a Mini proto foiler, and looking toward future projects. In this exclusive interview (in English but subtitled in Italian), Michael Schmidt, former founder of Hanse and now head of Y Yachts, talks about himself. From his beginnings as a sailor and the (almost) Olympics as a sportsman to his planetary success as an entrepreneur. An interview not to be missed. Who is Michael Schmidt Michael Schmidt, born in Kiel in 1948, is one of the biggest players in boating in the past 30 years. First a sailor and racer, star of the German challenges to the Admiral’s Cup in the 1980s, then a manager and boat builder, founder of a global giant like Hanse, and then still the creator of a “visionary” brand like Y Yachts. Michael Schmidt’s story is that of a man who has managed to combine passion and business in his work. The fall of the Wall and the creation of Hanse In the late 1980s he sniffed the good times post fall of the Berlin Wall and in what had been East Germany, in Greifswald to be precise, he founded Hanse Shipyard in 1990 in an old shed. Initially the shipyard is mainly involved in repairs, but soon the outlook changes. His goal is clear: pure cruising boats up to that time were slow and sometimes out of step with the times. Schmidt wants to come up with something new, not racing boats, but comfortable models that would sail very well, but as long as they were cheap. To do this you need an industrial production model and innovative designers: the choice fell on two names that would soon become important: Friedrich Judel and Rolf Vrolijk. He buys molds from a bankrupt Swedish shipyard, Rex Marin, and makes the Hanse 291, which will be a success at the 1994 Hamburg Show. The foundation stone of a construction site that will become a colossus. The birth of Y Yachts In 2011 Schmidt decided to leave and sell Hanse, but he had something new in mind; he did not intend to stop. He wants to continue producing boats, but this time not worrying about the market, or rather, not having the market as the main focus. He simply wants to produce his own boats, the ones he likes, boats of the most sophisticated design, with unconventional stylistic touches, fast, luxurious. The 80-foot Cool Breeze, a Brenta Design project, is the first boat produced, in 2015, by Michael Schmidt’s new boatyard. Thus was born Y Yachts, which in these early years had designers such as Lorenzo Argento and Luca Brenta among its protagonists. An out-of-the-box brand that will never cease to surprise us in the years to come. Boats that will carry with them the DNA of Michael Schmidt: part racer, part visionary; an imaginative yachtsman. “What has changed today from when I was going around the world? Everything! There wasn’t even GPS, you were connecting twice a week with an amateur radio operator in Ravenna.” And again, “When I rescued Isabelle Autissier I had a galley full of food, I brought her Italian aperitifs and cheeses, she was amazed accustomed as she was to ‘barbaric’ French food.” In this ninety-minute interview conducted by the Giornale della Vela in collaboration with the Lega Navale Italiana of Milan, he is truly a freewheeling Giovanni Soldini. Italy’s most famous navigator told us about everything. From his thoughts on the Vendée Globe (the solo round-the-world race), “not as unique as it used to be,” to his colleagues Pedote and Beccaria, from his history (from his beginnings in Flying Junior) to his Cuban experience to the round-the-world races that have consigned him to history. All seasoned with anecdotes that reveal Soldini’s unseen side: “The Cape Hornier earring? I made it myself, without ice!” “I have a tractor.” “I love repairing things, I’m a serial repairer.” “Who wouldn’t I take on a boat with me? Salvini and Trump.” Unmissable. WHO IS GIOVANNI SOLDINI He was born in Milan on May 16, 1966, and began sailing as a child. Go to event

“We were happy with boat 1; this second hull is its evolution.” Max Sirena, live from Auckland, reveals all the secrets of Luna Rossa’s second AC75 hull, with which the team will be on the water at the Prada Cup starting Dec. 17 and try to win the America’s Cup. Luna Rossa’s skipper and managing team director tells us about the boat in detail, with his usual irony: “In winter they all become builders, sailors, that’s the great thing about Italians.” Enjoy the beautiful and lengthy interview. WHO IS MAX SIREN Born in 1971 in Rimini, Massimiliano “Max” Sirena is in his seventh participation in the America’s Cup. Of these he won the 33rd with BMW Oracle Racing in the role of wing mast manager and the 35th with Emirates Team New Zealand in the Bermuda edition in 2017. Max was skipper of the Extreme 40 Luna Rossa and winner of the Extreme Sailing Series championship in 2011. With the Luna Rossa team, he participated in the 2000 challenges, winning the Louis Vuitton Cup, and 2003 and 2007 in the role of assistant bowman. He then became Skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa in the campaign for the 34th America’s Cup, held in San Francisco in 2013. Today, still in the role of Skipper and Team Director, he is leading the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team in the challenge for the 36th America’s Cup to be contested in Auckland in 2021. Here is our exclusive interview with Michael Schmidt. We will not only talk about the super-boats that are built today by his shipyard Y Yachts, but about Schmidt’s story, from his first steps as a sailor to Admiral’s, from the creation of the Hanse empire to the last adventure with Y. Foto di Mauro Giuffrè WHO IS MICHAEL SCHMIDT But the man in front of us is certainly one of the greatest protagonists of the nautical world of the last 30 years. First he was a yachtsman and racer, protagonist of the German challenges at the Admiral’s Cup in the 80’s, then manager and boat builder, founder of a world colossus like Hanse, and then again creator of a “visionary” brand like Y Yachts. Michael Schmidt’s story is that of a man who has managed to combine passion and business in his work. THE FALL OF THE WALL AND THE CREATION OF HANSE At the end of the 80’s he smells the positive moment after the fall of the Berlin Wall and in what had been East Germany, in Greifswald to be precise, he founded in 1990, in an old warehouse, the Hanse shipyard. Initially the shipyard was mainly involved in repairs, but soon the outlook changed. His goal is clear: the pure cruise boats up to that point were slow and sometimes not very up to date. Schmidt wants to propose something new, not racing boats, but comfortable models that sail very well, but only if they are cheap. To do this, he needed a model of industrial production and innovative designers: the choice fell on two names that would soon become important: Friedrich Judel and Rolf Vrolijk. He bought moulds from a bankrupt Swedish shipyard, Rex Marin, and produced the Hanse 291, which was to be a success at the 1994 Hamburg Motor Show. The foundation stone of a construction site that will become a colossus. THE BIRTH OF Y YACHTS In 2011 Schmidt decides to leave and sell Hanse, but he has something new in mind, he does not intend to stop. He wants to continue to produce boats, but this time not worrying about the market, or rather, not having the market as his main focus. He simply wants to produce his boats, the ones he likes, boats with a very refined design, with unconventional, fast, luxurious stylistic touches. This is how Y Yachts was born, which in these early years has had among its protagonists designers such as Lorenzo Argento and Luca Brenta. A brand outside the box, which will not stop surprising us also in the coming years. Boats that will carry the DNA of Michael Schmidt: a bit racing, a bit visionary; an imaginative yachtsmen. The Catamaran Felci Yachts 80 is an unprecedented project that we decided to present on the occasion of Milan Yachting Week. It is a super cruising catamaran, 24 meters long and about 12 meters wide, in which the naval architecture, the stylistic and functional design are the result of a long research and development work begun on the input of one of our affectionate owners and carried forward by our studio with great enthusiasm and desire to achieve new goals. A great work of design and synthesis in which converge years of experience and a futuristic vision of the sailing boat. This is transformed, from a means of transport and entertainment, to which to combine also a comfortable life on board, in something different. In an entity almost completely autonomous, in which to live even long periods, as in a luxurious villa by the sea, with which it is however possible to easily (and quickly) change the scenarios. Clearly the basic research is declined in new and more extensive formal and functional analysis, in search of new spaces of housing, comfort and privacy. The interior is on three floors. The cabins and the kitchen at the lowest level, in the hulls; the living room in direct communication with the cockpit at deck level and the fly, large terrace located 5 meters above sea level. Many are the episodes that allow you to find these separate and welcoming environments As the first distinctive element, coming from the outside, there is immediately the cockpit, semi covered and characterized by large stairs to climb on the walk around towards the bow. To starboard a luxurious relaxation area with sofas, convertible into a dining or breakfast area. This area is the fulcrum from which to access both inside the boat and to the raised fly bridge. In direct connection, at the same level, we find the living room equipped with an exclusive sofa area for evenings spent relaxing inside, a large table for dinner in 12 and a study with sea views. From a spiral staircase in carbon and teak, you can climb on the fly, where there are areas with different functionalities, for example the sunbathing area with large cushions and equipped with a “vanishing” Jacuzzi, or the command area of the boat, from which to control sailing and motor navigation. Also at deck level, at the bow of the saloon, there is an additional outdoor sitting area that allows a pleasant privacy even when you are moored in the marina with the stern at the dock. Note the possibility of direct access to the two very large twin cabins, with king-size double beds arranged transversally and directly in contact with the environment thanks to two large windows at sea. In both rooms there are also two beautiful walk-in wardrobes and two toilets with separate shower and sauna, as well as a study and a sofa for moments of maximum privacy. The hulls allow to realize also two very large guest cabins, with private toilets with separate shower, maintaining very high the style and the constructive details that characterize transversally all the environments and all the furniture. The kitchen, directly connected to the crew area is located aft in the left hull, characterized by volume and exceptional finishes. A real home kitchen, functional, modern and elegant, available to the crew that in addition to a private living room also has direct connection to the captain cabin, equipped with overlapping beds and large bathrooms and separate shower Two separate crew cabins complete the internal lay out of this project. From a sailing point of view, two versions had been studied, one more performing with telescopic daggerboard and the other more cruising oriented with fixed keel and shallower draught. The construction will necessarily be very Hi-tech, in carbon fibre sandwich, in order to obtain a monolithic structure absolutely non-deformable and robust. The sail plan, with a quite aft located mast, allows you to sail without the aid of the engine power already with 8 knots of TWS and keep averages absolutely interesting, in view of the maximum reduction of consumption and emissions. Technical Data LOA: 24,0 mt B max: 11,7 mt DSPL: 50 t Draft 1: 1,90 mt Draft 2: 4,40 mt Sail Area: 350 sqm Engine power: 2 x 230 Generator: 2 x 10 kw H2o: 2x 800 lt Fuel: 2x 1500 Construction: Sandwich carbon- epoxy – infusion Mast: carbon Boom: carbon furling Go to event
