HALLBERG-RASSY 400 – UNDERWAY

EXTERNAL DETAILS

Double wheel and double shovel

The big novelty that jumps out at the aft cockpit boat (the largest with this “aft cockpit” configuration) is the double rudder wheel and double blade: the 412 relied instead on the single “wheel” and a single blade. This allows for more cockpit space and better visibility. A polished varnished teak cockpit table is available as an option. The lines and rigging are deferred in the cockpit, allowing the use of electric winches without taking up interior space. There are “bins” for excess tops so that everything is always neat and tidy. The mainsail sheet carriage is located in front of the typical Hallberg-Rassy sprayhood.

Hull and deck

Laminate hull construction: isophthalic gelcoat, vinylester-based barrier layer. Hand layering method, insulated with Divinycell PVC foam against heat and cold, except in the keel area which is solid laminate. Lead keel bolted with stainless steel bolts. The rudders are carefully mounted for high sensitivity. The deck and canopy areas and also the cockpit are in sandwich construction, in solid parts, laminated to the hull.

Deck and deck accessories

Solid teak handrail along the entire length of the superstructure. Robust bow fitting. Stowage below for fenders. Two strong bollards at the bow, stern, and midships. Skylights on each side that discharge rainwater into the sea just above the waterline to avoid staining the hull. Rails for genoa and mainsheet with blocks. Eight portside portholes, six of which can be opened. Pulpit and stern have opening for easy access on board. There is a separate gas locker with stowage for two 6 kg PK6 gas cylinders. Bathing platform in the transom.

INTERIOR

Regarding the layout of the interior, three configurations have been thought of: the first with a master cabin served by the bathroom in the bow and two doubles (and one bathroom) in the stern, while in the saloon there is space forward of the galley for two sofas, one L-shaped and one long. In the second the starboard aft cabin well replaced by a technical compartment (and bathroom with shower), the starboard sofa replaced by two armchairs. The third layout differs from the second only in the presence of the sofa instead of armchairs in the dinette.

As standard, the boat has two sofas in the salon, an aft cabin with a double bed, and a bathroom with a shower. All interior trim is light mahogany khaya silk matte finish. Recessed cabinet doors with invisible hinges, real wood floor painted with inlaid holly strips. The salon ceiling is covered with mahogany strips, and the ceilings in the rest of the boat have a light coating. High-quality fabric-covered cushions on all bunks 12 cm thick sandwich foam resting on unpainted, well-ventilated boards to prevent condensation. All portholes have curtains, which are also present under the deck hatches in the sleeping cabins.
