Motor Boats turned 30 years old in 2020. Who better than Luca Bassani, founder of Wally, to tell what has changed between before and after? His boats served as watersheds and helped change and evolve the powerboat world. So we decided to interview him and today you can see the video among the events of Milan Yachting Week! Check it out here!
Luca Bassani, Wally and the Powerboats
Luca Bassani, 64, is universally recognized as one of the modern powerboat (and sailboat) creator and builder of those Wally boats, coveted and appreciated all over the world. For boating, however, it is also so much more. His story is there to prove it. That is why his account is full of surprises, tasty anecdotes, unpublished backstories.
The vertical bow, fold-down terraces, forward cockpit, and use of glass surfaces. All of these are things we see and take for granted in today’s boats and yachts. So is the phenomenon of maxi-tenders and MedBoats that are so popular today. Behind it all is him, Luca Bassani.
It all stems from sailing, where the Monaco-based shipyard took its first steps. Then a shipowner one day asked him for a powerboat, and from there a whole series of insights that also brought Wally’s powerboats to the top of international boating.
The knock-down broadside? It already existed in the early 2000s
In this photo, we see the WallyPower 118 in 2002 and its fold-down broadside. Today they are widespread and are one of the most important trends in recent years. Starting with this custom-built 36-meter today have come up to a widely distributed 9-meter like the Beneteau Flyer 9. This is just one of the many insights of Luca Bassani and Wally, which today boating has assimilated, making them its own: check them all out here, in the beautiful story-interview with Luca Bassani.
